Learn to Read the Quran – Lesson XXIX

Posted on March 1, 2026April 12, 2026 by Learning Labs

This weekend, we spent time exploring an important concept in Quran reading: Tanween. Our focus was on recognizing the shape of Tanween and understanding the sound it creates when reading Arabic words.

We began with a short introduction to what Tanween is and where it appears in words. Participants learned how the double vowel marks — ً (an), ٍ (in), and ٌ (un) — are written and how they change the ending sound of a word. Recognizing these shapes is an essential step for anyone learning to read the Quran with accuracy.

After the introduction, most of our time was dedicated to practice. The goal is not only to understand the concept but also to build confidence through repeated reading. The example words helped everyone become more comfortable spotting Tanween and producing the correct sounds.

Here is the deck we used for the session:

We look forward to continuing this journey together.
You are warmly invited to join our next meetup on “Learning to Read the Quran.”

This gathering is for women only and is designed to be supportive and beginner-friendly. Sessions include a short introduction to a concept followed by practice, helping participants gradually build their Quran reading skills.

We hope to see you at the next session!
